Welcome to another edition of the Canadian Securities Exchange Quarterly video update. In this episode, we recap another record-breaking performance at the Exchange for Entrepreneurs, introduce the latest additions to the CSE team and highlight some of the CSE’s latest adventures.
This quarter, the CSE continued on its record pace, achieving new milestones in both trading and funding activity. Growing investor interest in the CSE’s listed securities helped propel trading volume to a record 1.27 billion shares – a 138% increase over the same quarter last year. In addition, a total of 811 million shares from other listed exchanges were also traded on the CSE platform – a year over year increase of 59%. Listings activity remained strong, with Q3 ending at 315 tradeable securities on the exchange, a 4% increase than at September-end 2015.
Also, companies listed on the CSE continued to actively raise capital. This past quarter CSE-listed companies conducted 85 financing deals raising a total of $109 million – up 31% on a year over year basis. In response to this strong quarter, CEO Richard Carleton commented: “The CSE is firing on all cylinders. With an improved capital markets backdrop, our issuers are better able to meet, and in some cases exceed, their financing targets.” The third quarter of 2016 also saw new team members join the CSE. The addition of senior personnel in disclosure and compliance, board-level oversight and listings management will help strengthen the exchange’s capabilities to deliver excellent service as the exchange continues to grow. Added Richard: “Having several talented executives join our team, the CSE is better positioned than ever to enable entrepreneurs to raise growth capital at the lowest possible cost, while providing liquid and accessible trading services for investors around the world.”
Finally, the CSE team continued to connect with entrepreneurs across Canada. This past quarter, the CSE attended and sponsored such notable events as the Calgary Stampede Breakfast, TakeStock Alberta’s Private Company Showcase, Mines and Money Americas, and the Toronto Capital Conference.
