Keith Schaefer, Editor of the Oil & Gas Investment Bulletin, calling out the oil industry on spill response.
“If I ruled the world, we’d see so much more community involvement in Energy Projects. I just think the industry has just been woefully sorry and inadequate in addressing the concerns of, what’s your spill response going to be, what new protocols you’re putting in to make sure that this is all going to be safe? And instead the industry just keep coming back to us with, oh we do more jobs, we do more jobs, it’s like you’re looking at two groups who aren’t talking to each other, they’re talking two different languages and they’ve been doing that for two years. And I’ve just really been sadly surprised to see the industry not be more forthcoming on things like emergency spill response activities and how it’s all going to work, and what all the safety things are. Personally I don’t understand but that’s one of the ways the industry has kind of shot themselves in the foot for the last year or two.”
