5E Advanced Materials Targets U.S. Boron Supply

Critical mineral used in defense, semiconductors and energy technologies

Why is boron becoming strategically important?
5E Advanced Materials is advancing a U.S.-based boron project designed to support domestic supply for technologies ranging from defense systems and semiconductors to nuclear energy.

While metals such as gold, silver and copper dominate headlines, another element is quietly becoming increasingly strategic. Boron.

5E Advanced Materials is focused on developing a secure domestic supply of this critical mineral. Boron sits as the fifth element on the periodic table and plays a role in more than 300 industrial and technology applications.

Its properties make it valuable across multiple sectors. Boron is lightweight, heat resistant and energy dense, allowing it to support applications including permanent magnets used in fighter jets, AI technologies, semiconductors and nuclear energy systems.

Because of its strategic importance, the U.S. government has added boron to the critical minerals list, highlighting the need for reliable domestic supply chains.

Today, global production is highly concentrated. According to company leadership, roughly two companies control about 85% of global boron supply, and large-scale deposits are rare.

5E Advanced Materials is working to address that imbalance through its Fort Cady boron project in California. The deposit is hosted in colemanite, a high-grade boron mineralization type considered among the most desirable forms of boron resources.

Management believes the project has the potential to become a long-term domestic boron producer, with a projected mine life exceeding 200 years.

Beyond the geological opportunity, the company is advancing several commercial steps simultaneously. Current priorities include securing customer agreements, finalizing financing structures for a commercial-scale facility, and advancing engineering toward a bankable feasibility study.

The project also benefits from strategic infrastructure advantages. The site is connected to grid power and located approximately two hours from the Port of Los Angeles, providing potential access to export markets across Asia.

As global demand for critical minerals increases, boron may play a growing role in both industrial supply chains and national security strategies.
