Plant-based, patented single-serve beverage pod

Nexe Innovations is on a mission is to replace single use plastic with compostable plant-based materials. Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced each year, and only 9% of it is recycled. Moreover, as plastic continues to find its way into landfills, and our oceans, governments around the world are beginning to take action by limiting single-use plastics.

Plant-based compostable technology

Nexe is a leader in plant-based compostable technology and advanced materials innovation based in British Columbia, Canada. Furthermore, they've developed one of the only patented, fully compostable, plant-based, single-serve coffee pods for use in existing major single-serve coffee machines. "All our materials are plant based. Everything is composable. Coffee grounds are composable, so essentially you take our part and you can throw it right in the green bin," says President and Director, Ash Guglani

Additionally, the company has recently achieved a great milestone. Nexe certified its Nespresso compatible pods to ASTM International, ISO as well as the European compostability standards all in one. "We also looked at eco-toxicity and found that our pods broke down with no eco-toxic effects in the soil," says Chief Science Officer, Zac Hudson.

Nexe has raised over $35M (equity and government funding) to date and has over five years of R&D. This makes them well-positioned to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable products in the single-serve coffee sector and beyond.
