CMI Financial Group: Building Reliable Income with Mortgage Investment Funds
CMI Financial Group explains how short-term, real-asset-backed mortgage funds are helping investors weather inflation and market uncertainty.

Mike Spero shares how CMI’s mortgage-backed alternative strategies offer steady returns and lower volatility for today’s investors
In a market still adjusting to stubborn inflation and a volatile economic backdrop, traditional investment strategies are being re-evaluated. Mike Spero, Chief Operating and Financial Officer at CMI Financial Group, outlines why more Canadians are turning to mortgage investment funds (MIFs) as a way to generate steady income and reduce exposure to market swings.
According to Spero, the appeal lies in the combination of capital preservation and consistent yield. CMI’s funds are backed by Canadian residential real estate and structured with shorter-term, floating-rate mortgages—features that help cushion portfolios against inflation and market downturns. These funds aim to generate income in the range of 7% to 11%, offering investors a passive and inflation-resistant option.
The traditional 60/40 portfolio split is losing relevance, Spero notes, particularly after 2022 showed both equity and bond markets moving downward in tandem. In response, income-seeking investors are prioritizing reliable cash flow—not just high yield, but consistency. CMI’s approach addresses this shift, positioning its funds as foundational income elements within diversified portfolios.
As more Canadians look beyond public markets, CMI’s mortgage investment funds provide a calm, calculated solution for today’s evolving investment needs.
