Revolutionizing Copper Production with Sustainable and Low-Risk Development Strategies
In the heart of Arizona's copper belt, the Arizona Sonoran Copper Company (ASCU) is making significant strides with its Cactus Mine Project. Amidst a rising demand for copper and a shortage of new mines, ASCU's emergence as a lower-risk copper developer on private land in Arizona—a state responsible for over 70% of the US's copper supply in 2022—is timely and strategic.
The Cactus Mine Project, a brownfield property, presents a unique opportunity with its minimal barriers to production, bolstered by existing infrastructure such as water rights until 2070, access to a natural aquifer, a main power line, and proximity to road and rail infrastructure. The city of Casa Grande's support, just five kilometers away, further strengthens the project's social license.
What sets the Cactus Mine Project apart is not just its infrastructure but its impressive copper resource—5.2 billion pounds in the measured and indicated category, with an additional 2.2 billion inferred. A recent Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) highlights 3 billion pounds of reserves, projecting a 21-year mine life and positioning the project in the first quartile of capital intensity for building a 55,000 tons per annum heap leach and SXEW operation.
ASCU is not resting on its laurels with the release of the oxide-focused PFS. With ongoing drilling at the Mainspring property and metallurgical core drilling for potential collaboration with Nuton—Rio Tinto’s division focused on copper sulphide leaching technology—the company is poised for further exploration and development. Nuton's innovative bio leach process could significantly extend the life of the Cactus Mine Project by economically extracting ore from primary sulfides previously considered unviable.
As ASCU moves towards commercial production, its vision to grow into a solid mid-tier mining company represents not just an ambitious business plan but a commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices. With a focus on low operating costs, robust returns for investors, and long-term benefits for the community and stakeholders, Arizona Sonoran Copper Company is at the forefront of redefining the copper mining industry.
