Chris Thompson, Mining Analyst at PI Financial speaks about the gold and mining sector. He sees gold holding north of fourteen hundred dollars as very positive for the sector.

He also believes that what we do need to see, is value creation from mining companies. Whether companies are explorers, developers or producers, Thompson says, "It's got to be delivered through discovery. It's got to be delivered through meeting expectations as far as operations and also M&A.".

According to Statista, globally, Canada is the fifth largest producer of gold as of 2018. Within Canada, it is the most valuable mined mineral. It is fitting that as the largest producer of gold based on volume, Ontario also had the highest gold production value of all the Canadian provinces. Quebec was the second largest producer in Canada, having produced a 32.6 percent share of Canada’s gold in 2017.
