La Platosa Mine - Mexico’s highest-grade silver mine
Excellon Resources' 100%-owned Platosa Mine has been Mexico’s highest-grade silver mine since production commenced in 2005. The Company is focused on optimizing Platosa’s cost and production profile. They're also working on discovering further high-grade silver and carbonate replacement deposit mineralization on the 14,000-hectare Platosa Project and epithermal silver mineralization on the 100%-owned 45,000-hectare Evolución Property, and capitalizing on current market conditions by acquiring undervalued projects. Excellon also holds an option on the 164 km2 Silver City Project in Saxony, Germany. This is a high-grade epithermal silver district with 750 years of mining history and no modern exploration.
On February 24, 2020, Excellon announced the proposed acquisition of Otis Gold and the addition of an attractive gold development project in the United States to its portfolio. The acquisition is an initial step in Excellon becoming a larger multi-asset precious metals producer. "It's a nice acquisition for us. That's aiming to close in late April of 2020 and has a huge exploration potential as well." says President and CEO, Brendan Cahill.
La Platosa
Markedly, La Platosa is one of the highest-grade silver mines in Mexico and is 100% owned by Excellon Resources Inc. Initially acquired in 1996, the property now encompasses 14,000 ha in the State of Durango, north-central Mexico.
The La Platosa Mine exploits a series of typical, though very high‐grade, massive sulphide, distal CRD silver, lead, zinc manto deposits. These sit strategically in the middle of the prolific Mexican CRD Belt. Further, diamond drilling results in 2013 and 2014 continued to confirm that the Platosa property holds considerable potential for the discovery of additional high‐grade manto mineralization. Additionally, it holds potential for the discovery of large‐tonnage, though lower grade, proximal skarn mineralization.
Evolución
The Evolución property covers 45,000 hectares and 35 kilometres of strike in one of the world’s premier silver districts. The property includes a mineral processing facility which the Company utilizes to process ore from its Platosa Mine in the state of Durango, Mexico. The mineral processing facility currently has capacity of 800 tonnes per day (“tpd”), with a 650 tpd ball mill in operation and a second, 150 tpd ball mill on standby, with opportunities available for further expansion.
