🚕  Uber Finds an Unlikely Ally Against Robotaxis

Catch Up

The race to commercialize autonomous taxis is creating some unexpected alliances. Uber is increasingly aligning with traditional taxi groups and driver organizations as Waymo and other autonomous vehicle operators expand their robotaxi networks.

What  Happened

  • Uber is supporting policies that would encourage ride-hailing networks to maintain a combination of autonomous vehicles and human drivers.
  •
  • The company is backing regulatory efforts in some U.S. markets aimed at slowing unrestricted robotaxi deployment and providing protections for drivers.
  •
  • Uber still sees autonomous vehicles as part of its future, but wants to position its platform as the link between riders, human drivers, and robotaxis.
  •

Why It Matters

Robotaxis have the potential to fundamentally change the economics of ride-hailing. For investors, the competition is expanding beyond who develops the best autonomous technology to include who controls customer relationships,      distribution, and the platforms connecting riders with transportation.

📈Big Banks Attract Investors as Rates Stay in Focus

 Catch Up‍

Bank stocks are gaining momentum as investors reassess the outlook for interest rates and look for opportunities beyond technology. Major financial institutions in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Europe have benefited from expectations that      rates could remain higher, alongside strong trading and deal activity.

What Happened

  • The Invesco KBW Bank ETF reached a series of record highs in August and was up roughly 14% year-to-date as of September 2.
  •
  • Canada's bank sector has performed even more strongly, gaining roughly 25% in 2026 compared with approximately 14% for the broader Canadian market.
  •
  • Higher trading volumes, increased M&A activity, and financing demand tied to AI infrastructure have also supported bank earnings.
  •

Why It  Matters

Higher rates can improve bank margins, while active capital markets create additional opportunities through trading, underwriting, and advisory fees. Banks are also gaining indirect exposure to the AI investment cycle by helping finance data centres and other infrastructure, giving investors another way to participate in the broader capital-spending trend without relying solely on technology stocks.

✈️ China's Technology Ecosystem Draws Global Attention

Catch Up‍

China's rapid progress in artificial intelligence, robotics, electric vehicles, and  advanced manufacturing is attracting a growing number of international investors and business leaders seeking a closer look at the country's technology ecosystem.

What Happened

  • Investors and entrepreneurs are increasingly travelling to Chinese technology hubs for direct access to factories and emerging technology companies.
  •
  • Shanghai-based technology tour operator GloPen reported a 50% increase in inquiries this year, particularly from European and Singaporean clients.
  •
  • Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, and Hefei have emerged as important centres for China's EV, battery, robotics, and AI industries.
  •

Why It Matters

China is increasingly competing on innovation as well as manufacturing scale. For investors, understanding the country's technology ecosystem matters even without direct Chinese market exposure, as these companies are becoming      increasingly important competitors, suppliers, and partners across global industries.
